[SOLVED] Couldn't launch apps - xserver and/or $DISPLAY hostname issue

When starting apps I would receive an error similar to that discussed https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=153070

Turns out my /etc/hostname had disappeared, meaning apps weren't able to be launched.

My computer name in the terminal also looked odd - some random characters instead of the name I'd set.

I fixed this with

cp /etc/hostname.pacsave /etc/hostname

Hopefully this helps someone and doesn't break any rules by solving an issue in the first post - I wasn't sure where else to post this.
