[SOLVED] Firefox bookmarks and history don't work due to file locking

hello world

after a recent update my ff installation got broken: it displays nothing in about:support, it can't access neither history nor bookmarks and, well, it's pretty much unusable in this state
i tried deleting ~/.mozilla and ~/.cache/mozilla altogether to no change at all
i'm also a bit concerned about the file called "lock" in ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiledir/:

lrwxrwxrwx   16 peppermint 19 Sep 23:13 lock -> 127.0.1.1:+11817

i thought this could be related to some updated library issue, but the freshly built firefox-92.0-2 still has the problem
any help would be appreciated

You must have messed something up with Firefox yourself, because on my site about:support is displayed normally.

Hello,

i have the same problem as mradermaxlol. Since an update my firefox no longer works properly.
It only starts with "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" alert.
I tried the following:
- Delete all sqlite databases in the profile folder.
- Delete Profile and create new one.
- Delete ~/.mozilla

Each time the sqlite databases were created anew, but they are always empty (no tables)

After a few days I completely rebuilt my Arch Linux. I planned to do that for partition changes anyway.
During the installation I have all "." files deleted from my home directory.

Unfortunately, the problem with Firefox in the freshly installed system still persists.

When setting up my Arch Linux I think I have the same problem with Mozilla Thunderbird. No email accounts can be created.

$ pacman -Qkk firefox
firefox: 99 total files, 0 altered files

$ firefox --full-version
Mozilla Firefox 92.0 20210919160836 20210919160836

$ pacman -Qs firefox
local/firefox 92.0-2
    Standalone web browser from mozilla.org

i will test firefox with a temporary user and report back; i'll also run paccheck just in case
btw i have testing repos enabled, but packages there don't seem to be the root cause of the problem

apparently

paccheck --sha256sum --quiet (pacman -Qq)

didn't find any checksum issues, and the problem persists with the brand new test user

No idea what it is for, but it doesn't seem related to the issue.

Since a new user also has the issue, it must be something systemwide .

- What shell are you using ?
- what filesystem is /home on ?
- X or wayland ?
- which graphics cards & drivers ?

i use fishshell, / and /home are f2fs 1.13 with dm-crypt/LUKS2
wm is sway, radeon rx560m w/ amdgpu/mesa
kernel is linux-xanmod from aur with some config modifications (i also tried linux-zen from repos)
i will post my envvars & ~/.mozilla permissions later today

i have to note that everything worked flawlessly before and i haven't made any fundamental changes to my setup for a while, it seems like some package update caused this mess to happen (glib? gtk? i don't really know)
could zlib-ng usage be related to this problem?

I also use f2fs for my home partition, too.
Just i read that we have this in common.

I created a new home partition with ext4 and entered it in the fstab.
With it then firefox runs without problems.

UPDATE:

I just found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comm … ernel_513/

I used an arch linux install usb boot stick for:

$ fsck.f2fs -a /dev/<homepartition>

Then i start my normal system and create a new firefox profile.
Now my f2fs home partition with firefox is working fine.

i'll check it out later this week, we'll see what happens

seems like something in linux-5.14 originally caused this and then it got backported to the 5.13 tree (because everything was fine with earlier 5.13.X releases)
