Pulseaudio doesn't recognize my microphone

Hello,

I am new to arch and I have searched through countless forum posts for a solution but none seemed to fix my issue.

I have a headset with a mic attached to it, plugged into my mac mini using the headphone jack. My headset recieves audio, however my microphone is not picked up. I can tell its using an internal microphone as the default as when I play a youtube video, or make a sound on the system, the sound bar below the selected microphone moves (I have to set the volume to 300% to see it properly).

Configuration has built-in audio set to Analog stereo Duplex.
The microphone is not muted in pavucontrol, seen many fall to that.
When setting input devices to all except monitor only shows 1 port named Microphone, which has "Set as Fallback" checked.

I believe that I need to change the default microphone? But no clue where to go from there, other posts had lines of code that go into certain files but they didnt work for me, but I can test more if need be.
Any help would be appreciated, if I need to send screenshots or try more commands let me know I will post them as well.

Does the headphone jack on your mac mini actually accept headsets? Because not all jacks do both audio-in and audio-out at once, and when they do, the pinout may not necessarily match up with what your headset expects.

Yep, works on every OS/Distro that I have tried. My mac mini is dual booted with MacOS and arch, and it works perfectly fine when using MacOS.

First thing I'd try is to install "alsa-ucm-conf" and "sof-firmware".

What exact computer is this? There are usually Wiki pages for computers which list what works and doesn't work together with any workarounds available.

Saw this mentioned on another post, quite possibly by yourself. I can confirm that these two are indeed installed and updated to the lasted version.

As for the computer, I have the 2014 Mac Mini with the 2.6 GHz dual-core intel i5 processor (Can be found here: https://support.apple.com/kb/sp710?locale=en_GB).

These are the specs listed under audio:

are more interesting for mic issues. Not really an indication of sof issues here, but mic jack detection can be generally flaky.

whoops the commands should've been pacmd list-sources instead of the space, but it doesn't matter the relevant info is in the full list list anyway.

Nothing out of the ordinary so far, I suggest you try and play with HDA models: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ … gic-cs4208 obvious candidate here would be the macmini. You can do that via a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf or so with the content

options snd_hda_intel model=auto,macmini

the first auto is necessary for the HDMI device, the second one should trigger the relevant codec reconfig for the actual card. You'll need to reboot for these to apply.

Thank you V1del for replying and trying to help, same goes for everyone else I do appreciate it.

I'll edit the previous post with the new command output anyway just incase.

I have had a look at the link you referenced and tried a few that might relate to my specifications.

Unfortunately, all of these have no change once rebooting my system.
Since I didn't have a file named "alsa.conf" I had to create one so hopefully that doesn't cause an issue or require more actions to be taken? E.g referencing it somewhere, entering more code etc.
Below in the screenshot is all I have in the folder named modprobe.d (and obviously I created the alsa.conf myself, the other three were there from installation) if that helps at all.

Spent a few more hours looking at previous posts again, saw this link https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Advanc … TRRS)_jack and tried to use "alsa-base.conf" with a similar styled code inside. No luck.

I also installed hdajackretask as I saw someone managed to solve their issue with it, but not sure how that works. Messed around with it, but couldn't get anything to work.
