[Solved]Intermittent resolution problem

I'm running an i7 wi/ 32gb and intel graphics.  The monitor is connected through a KVM switch.  What's happening is that occasionally my display manager (lightdm) comes up in the default resolution (1024x780 I think) when it should come up 1920x1080.  Usually a reboot solves the problem but, I have had to reboot multiple times.  Because this is an occasional problem, I can't say for sure when it started.

If I go ahead and log in with the screwy resolution and try xrandr to see what's going on, I get the following error:

xrandr: output HDMI2 cannot use rotation "normal" reflection "none"

I see the same error in the xorg log.

This might be a timing issue.  I tried turning on debug in udev to see if it would provide more info.  I ran for over a week that way and the problem never happened while debug was on.  Setting it to info made the problem return.

Any idea what I should try next?

This is indeed often a timing issue and can normally be fixed by loading your graphics modules earlier which is described in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … _KMS_start

Thanks for the reply.  I did what it said in that link and ran mkinitcpio -P.  and it booted to the correct resolution.  At this point, all that says is it didn't break anything.  It'll take a little more time for me to determine whether the problem's solved.  It looks promising though.

It's been long enough.  Time to call this one solved.  Thanks V1del!
