[SOLVED] After upgrade, meta key is not recognized

If you don't know what I mean by "meta" key, on my keyboard it is the "Windows" key.

It was working just a few minutes ago before I rebooted after a system upgrade.

; uname -a
Linux iris 5.14.8-zen1-1-zen #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT Sun, 26 Sep 2021 19:36:16 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have tested it with xev, showkeys, and `libinput debug-events`. None of these respond to the keypress of the meta key, although they do print their debug information in response to the other keys.

I plugged in a known good keyboard via USB, and it is no different there.

How else could I troubleshoot this?

For neither keyboard?
Does it work w/ the LTS kernel?

The meta key in particular just sounds like a gamemode switch or so on the keyboard itself. Did you check that - on both?

This is a "gaming laptop" (rolleyes) So I guess I should rule out the possibility of some kind of hardware lock... but I have no idea what I might have done to enable one.

Notebook model/vendor?

Edit: do you have a parallel windows installation?

I flipped it over and there's a sticker that says "Cyberpower xtreme-III 17 turbo"

Arch is the only o/s on this machine

Re: [SOLVED] After upgrade, meta key is not recognized

I fired up an arch netboot install on a USB pen drive and showkey detected the windows key there, on the USB keyboard but not on the integrated keyboard.

Furthermore, the windows key on my USB keyboard is now working in my on-disk arch install. It is only on the keyboard integrated with the laptop that it is not working.

This has satisfied me that the problem is not with arch and I have marked the thread solved. Thanks to all who replied.

Re: [SOLVED] After upgrade, meta key is not recognized

If it can be useful, I had this exact same problem (meta key not detected by any utils like wev).

Apparently I had activated some sort of "game mode" which deactivated the meta key. The game mode is activated by pressing FN+a F-key with an icon shaped like a joypad, which for me was F2. Deactivating this game mode solved the issue for me.
