Prevent monitor from going to sleep [Plasma]

I'm using KDE Plasma, and whenever I'm in full screen mode in something like YouTube, after a few minutes(5) the monitor will shut off, and then when I go to wake it up, it will be stuck on whatever frame was there when the screen turned off. At which point, I can't do anything to remove it from the screen, so I have to hold the power button to reboot the entire machine. I am aware of the screen locking settings, but that doesn't really solve the issue. I'm fine with the screen powering off and locking itself after 5 minutes of being idle, I just don't want it to do that when I'm watching a video or listening to music on YT. I'm also using Firefox as the web browser, if that makes any difference.

?

X11 or wayland?
(FF not suspending DPMS seems weird, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517870 )

Broadsword solution for X11: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Displa … bling_DPMS

Ideally, DPMS would work and not "freeze" the system. Does it only happen when playing video (yt/FF/fullscreen)?
Can you still switch to a different VT (ctrl+alt+f2) or ssh into the system?

Using X11.

The broadsword solution would work, but then the screen would always stay on, correct?

The "freeze" seems to only happen when in YT full screen mode. If I just let the system idle out on the desktop, it turns off the screen and locks it, but I am able to wake it up and log back in and resume normal operations. With YT in fullscreen, when the monitor turns off, which it shouldn't, I'm unable to log back in because the YT video is basically frozen on the screen. I can hear the video still playing in the background though, so it doesn't seem like the entire system is freezing.

I will try to reproduce the issue and then try using ctrl+alt+f2 .

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Prevent monitor from going to sleep [Plasma]

[correct]then the screen would always stay on, correct?[/correct]

turns off the screen and locks it

What if it doesn't lock?
Eg. "sleep 30; xset dpms force off" then watch some youtube and wait for the screen to fall asleep.

which it shouldn't

The "lock" part might mean that while FF disables DPMS it doesn't disable the screenlocker - maybe disable that one, make sure that DPMS is still enabled ("xset q") and see whether the screen still turns off.

So I can reproduce the issue every time, which needless to say is quite annoying. But anyways, I disabled the "lock after waking from sleep" function, and that seems to remove the screen freezing issue. But that doesn't really solve the issue, because I would like the screen to lock if the computer has been idle for too long. It just shouldn't be happening if I have something in fullscreen mode.

Re: Prevent monitor from going to sleep [Plasma]

"lock after waking from sleep" sounds more S3 related, does only the monitor turn off or does the system fall into S3 (suspend to ram) while playing the video?

Only the monitor turns off, everything else still runs in the background.

Re: Prevent monitor from going to sleep [Plasma]

I suspect it's only about the locker. Does Win+L (I guess KDE binds that) lock the screen and cause the issue (w/o actually turning off the output)
