mpd.  Every time I try something else I end up uninstalling and going back.  Besides, with the Audio::MPD perl module, I can have all sorts of fun.

gmpc is a great mpd client too.

Amarok, but I don't exactly enjoy using it. I used Juk before but it stopped working one day.

Re: What do you use to play your Tunez?

i still like the bmp/xmms players and use them the most. sometimes i use mpd with ncmpc or sonata on my laptop. i didn't know about quodlibet, just installed it and it looks pretty good. but are there EQ plugins for it, or EQ functionality with mpd? the SQ is so variable across different media that i find it essential. yikes

Re: What do you use to play your Tunez?

I use Amarok here. It seems particularly good at organizing a huge collection, and I like a lot of it's features as well. Still, I would prefer a linux version of beloved Foobar2000.... Hmm... now if someone could build a media player for linux that could use foobar's plugins, that would be a very joyous day indeed!

Re: What do you use to play your Tunez?

Amarok. it's the fastest with a big collection, and has many things no other player has. and most of these are actually usefull. i can't live without the lyrics (and the ability to edit them), the new tags are great (tough i'm waiting for the day they can be automatically synced with LastFM). i'm crazy about that lastFM integration, btw, it's amazing. a great way to find out about new music...
and i like the great integration with all kinds of audio players like ipod's, iRiver etcetera. great podcasting support. automatic re-coding of music to a format supported by the audioplayer - how could you use a player/sync app which doesn't offer that?

???? what ????

try the mysql database, and index 20.000 mp3's. compare that with others... and it's great in handling big databases in use as well, drag'n'drop of a few thousands of files - it even show's the amount of files and a few album art pictures while dragging...

anyway, works great for me ;-)

Re: What do you use to play your Tunez?

I could not live without Amarok. It's simply the best music player out there for me. Has everything: last.fm support, the shortcut keys are undeniably addictive I use them constantly, I enjoy the different ways I can find and sort music through collections and playlists. customizable as hell, and quite simply just works. I love it and won't use anything else. I've got a ton of music and never had any complaints about it's ability to read and store all that info into it's sql database. Works for me smile
