Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
XMonad is recompiling and replacing itself another XMonad process because the current process is called "xmonad" but the compiled configuration should be called "xmonad-x86_64-linux"
XMonad will use ghc to recompile, because "/home/denis/.xmonad/build" does not exist.
XMonad skipping recompile because it is not forced (e.g. via --recompile), and neither xmonad.hs nor any *.hs / *.lhs / *.hsc files in lib/ have been changed.

There is nothing special about my .xinitrc (it fails both with xmonad and xfce4):

#!/bin/sh

userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap

# merge in defaults and keymaps

if [ -f $sysresources ]; then

    xrdb -merge $sysresources

fi

if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
    xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi

if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then

    xrdb -merge "$userresources"

fi

if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
    xmodmap "$usermodmap"
fi

# start some nice programs

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi

exec xmonad
# exec xfce4

I have the following pacman hook for nvidia:

[Trigger]
Operation=Install
Operation=Upgrade
Operation=Remove
Type=Package
Target=nvidia
Target=linux

[Action]
Description=Update Nvidia module in initcpio
Depends=mkinitcpio
When=PostTransaction
NeedsTargets
Exec=/bin/sh -c 'while read -r trg; do case $trg in linux) exit 0; esac; done; /usr/bin/mkinitcpio -P'

I also tried running this command manually and rebooting:

sudo mkinitcpio -P

Maybe it's somehow related to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=269850?

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia 470.74 Xorg crash with startx (Xmonad problem)

/home/denis/.xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-linux: error while loading shared libraries: libHSxmonad-contrib-0.16-7l6vmVis0BLFFSdCN6GSxw-ghc8.10.5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

What if you change .xinitrc to start something other than xmonad?

Xorg is fine, it is Xmonad that is crashing.

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia 470.74 Xorg crash with startx (Xmonad problem)

Yes you are right. I can start xfce4 just fine with this line at the end of my .xinitrc:

exec startxfce4

... I was too temped to instantly blame nvidia for this :-)

I'll check if I can do something about

libHSxmonad-contrib-0.16-7l6vmVis0BLFFSdCN6GSxw-ghc8.10.5.so

Recompiling Xmonad solved the problem. Thank you!
