systemd-boot freezes when writing EFI variable

Greetings, everyone

I recently installed Arch on a crappy Acer Laptop. After playing with it for while, I decided to try out systemd-boot. Now, installing bootloaders on this device is a pain because the boot mode is locked to UEFI and any write to NVRAM will completely freeze the system. To avoid this, I used the --no-variables option.

The issue I ran into is that during boot, systemd-boot-system-token.service attempts to write a system token to an EFI variable, causing it to never finish booting. Is there a way to disable this?
