I recently reinstalled my system and started having problems with my external HD. Everytime I tried to mount it like usual, I would get an error along the lines of "cannot read superblock on /dev/sdb1". I suspect that's because last time I ended up unpugging it without unmounting it first. I did some research and after looked for people that've had the same problem, and decided to run fsck on it. I got the following:
[My hard drive] contains a file system with errors, check forced.
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes"
After a while, the following prompt appeared:
"Error reading block 75505486 (Input/output error) while getting next inode from scan. Ignore error<y>?"
I proceeded to type 'y' and got:
"Force rewrite<y>?"
I typed 'y' again and decided to let it do its thing. More than 2 days have passed and still not any results. Should I let it continue, or am I doing the wrong thing? How quickly do you think I'll regain acess to my files, if at all? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
