[Solved] KDE + Wayland + VGA + ATI videocard = Stuck at 1024x768 4:3

Hi everyone, I've a very frustrating problem on my Archlinux with KDE (Wayland) with ATI videocard when I plug my 16:9 Monitor on the VGA plug: i'm stucked at the resolution of 1024x768 (ratio 4:3) and I can't find a solution on the internet nor on the Arch-wiki. On the other hand, when I plug the same monitor with a DVI-I I've no problem with resolution and aspect ratio. Anyone can help? Thanks!

(I'd like to use the monitor VGA plug because the DVI-I is already plugged into another machine)

I doubt you are going to get more out of VGA. Which graphics card exactly?

Yes, I guess that the problem is that the VGA connection can't handle more than 1024x768, plus the monitor is "unknown". As I said, on the other hand, the DVI-I plug works fine.
(The card should be an ATI Radeon HD 48xx)

Many VGA connectors support Full HD 1020p (sometimes even 1440p ) resolutions, it mainly depends on the chipset.
(I used to have an HD 4870 that powered a 1600x1200 CRT monitor over vga)

What is brand and model of the monitor ?

please ~~post xorg log and output of xrandr -q and~~ check the cable as kokoko3k suggested.

Edit : xrandr doesn't work on wayland and xorg log is only relevant for xwayland in this setup.

Not the VGA "Connection" per se, but *your* cable or the connector itself.
There's a chance that the EDID sent by the monitor (if it send it at all) arrives corrupted to the PC.

please post xorg log and output of xrandr -q and check the cable as kokoko3k suggested.

I think I cannot use xrandr to manage the physical display under Wayland (I have no xrandr valid command through terminal). I'll try with another VGA cable asap, thanks

Solved. The problem was a very poor VGA cable. The resolution now is perfect. Thank you!
