Display hangs routinely when using Browsers/Steam/Discord/VLC/etc

Howdy, at some point after installing Arch or Manjaro with xfce, my displays will constantly hang for short amounts of time, usually a 0.5-1 seconds (sometimes more), once I start running web browsers, Discord, or Steam. Disabling hardware acceleration mitigates the problem to a great degree, but not every problem program allows you to and it does not eliminate the hangs completely. I've tried pacman -Syu and running the beta nvidia drivers but that changed nothing. The computer itself doesnt hang, as audio will continue to play and keyboard/mouse inputs seem to make it eventually.

The problem starts to happen suddenly, but once it begins it will continue to happen until I do an OS reinstall. This time it happened after a week or so, but in past installs its happened immediately upon running a problem program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more info I'd be happy to supply it.

Re: Display hangs routinely when using Browsers/Steam/Discord/VLC/etc

The xorg log records the stalls (in input event handling) but doesn't explain them.
Check your system journal for kernel or IO errors.
Does it also happen w/ a single output configuration?

Re: Display hangs routinely when using Browsers/Steam/Discord/VLC/etc

No kernel or IO errors to report, however the stalls stop when I disable my 1440p@144Hz monitor and just stick to my 1080p@60Hz. Enabling the 1440p monitor on its own at 60Hz or 144Hz brings back the stalls.

Re: Display hangs routinely when using Browsers/Steam/Discord/VLC/etc

Is the output https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate capbable?

Nvidia had issues w/ certain displayport connected outputs (notably dell…) earlier this year, but those were rather crashes. Can you try the output through HDMI?

Re: Display hangs routinely when using Browsers/Steam/Discord/VLC/etc

Yes, the 1440p is a gsync monitor, the 1080p is not. They're both connected via DP at the moment but I can try HDMI in the 1440p and DVI on the 1080p.

EDIT: Changing over the 1440p monitor to HDMI (Non-gsync 1080p still on DP) seems to have gotten rid of the problem. I guess I just have to find my hdmi cable capable of 1440p@144Hz and see if the problem persists.
