[SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Just switched to Arch yesterday. I tried to connect using wifi but I cannot. Tried googling and found out about nmtui. I tried activating PCI ethernet, wired connection 1 and was greeted with the prompt "Could not activate connection: Connection 'Wired connection 1' is not available on device enp3s0 because device has no carrier".

What should I do or fix so that I can connect to the WiFi?

Thank you for all responses.

SOLVED: I just need to install linux-firmware an reboot my computer

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

"because device has no carrier" meas that there's no cable plugged in (on either side) or the cable is loose or broken.

Please post your entire system journal ("sudo journalctl -b > /tmp/my.journal" redirects it into a file that you can usb-walk onto whatever system provides you network access right now)

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Nothing shows up

[ghiegie@furiosa ~]$ sudo journalctl -b > /tmp/my.journal
[ghiegie@furiosa ~]$

Also I am trying to connect via WiFi, not through the ethernet cable.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Nothing shows up because, as Seth explained, you are redirecting the output to /tmp/my.journal ... check that file and post it using seth's link (how to upload text).

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Your journal shows that NetworkManager successfully connects (you even get an IP address). However, later on it disconnects. I don't know enough to troubleshoot your problem but I could surmise that (see timestamp at 12:11:40) the kernel it is not loading the right firmware for your wifi card and it falls back to a generic driver that perhaps is not fully suited. Have you installed linux-firmware ?

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Yes you should. Reboot afterwards. Your journal shows also many other firmware failures ...

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Do you have an IP ? Does the wifi work ? If YES mark your original post as solved. Otherwise, redo the journal and post it again.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to WiFi

Glad it worked ... I am surprised I could be of help as I don't know much ... just out of curiosity: can you post the new journal so as to make sure the firmware for the wifi and so on are now loaded ? I'd like to learn something myself wink Btw originally you had failures in the wifi, bluetooth and acpi ....

PS: edit your original post and mark it as solved please.
