system can't start or end prcoess when changing to monitor mode

for some reason turning my wireless network adapter into monitor mode using

airmon-ng start (wireless adapter name)

or

wifite

causes the whole system to suddenly not be able to start or end most of the processes.It stays stuck like that indefinitely and if i tried shutting down arch from the terminal it stays stuck on the shutting down screen.oddly enough when I use.

iwconfig (wireless adapter name) mode monitor

it works just as intended
