[SOLVED] Display labels change in xrandr

I've just reinstalled Arch (it was working ok before, but I upgraded my SSD and I wanted a clean start). After installing and copying over various config files and settings back across, I seem to have an issue with my multi-display set-up.

My i3 config and my polybar config, plus my xorg monitor layout all rely on the naming convention of each monitor being consistent. ie. My primary monitor is normally called "DP-3" and secondary monitor is normally called "HDMI-1".

What I have discovered however, is that sometimes, they will be labelled as such (I'm checking using xrandr), and sometimes they are labelled as "DisplayPort-2" and "HDMI-A-0" instead of what they have historically always been called. This problem has only come about since doing a fresh re-install of my system. I am wondering if maybe there is an environment variable missing or possibly a driver issue or something?

Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED] Display labels change in xrandr

The output names are provided by the driver what suggests you're not cosistently loading the same one what is typically because of a race condition that can be mitigated w/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … _KMS_start

Please post xorg logs for ideally both output label situations (but one right now to provide a general idea of the system setup)

Re: [SOLVED] Display labels change in xrandr

Thanks for your reply. I have spent a lot of time away from home in the last few months so haven't had a chance to reply as it was affecting my home desktop.

Since updating, I haven't had this issue occur again, so while it is no longer happening, there is no point in posting my logs. I will update if it happens again.

Thanks for your time.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.

Thanks.

The reason for me leaving it open is because I didn't find a solution as such. It just stopped happening. But perhaps there was a bug fix implemented in the last pacman update that I did which addressed the cause of this issue, so I will mark it solved and I can re-open the issue if it pops up again. Cheers
