switching between multiusers

OK,
I need some help with this problem.
I have 3 users on kde 3.5.5. myself, Cass, ab. No problem switching between any desktops. Except I can't switch from ab to anyone else. I just get a black screen and it's stuck. If I switch using f7 etc. it still will not switch.
I've had problems with abs desk top and actually have deleted it including her home directory. I recreated it but still have the problem.
My question is - how do I go about looking into this? If anyone can point me to an article or wiki or another thread I'd really appreciate it. This is my wifes desktop and I've almost gotten my daughter and wife completely off of microsoft. They don't enjoy reading to find answers lol.

note: me tired right now.

The DRI permissions settings in xorg.conf are good for her too? You know the place in xorg.conf where you can select which users can use the drivers.. maybe it wasnt' in DRI category..

or else the problem probably is your Login manager. uninstall it with pacman and delete all it's config files if present. then reinstall it or install another one

man, thanks for the place to start! I will do this and poke around from there and see what's up. I've never had this problem and seems so mundane and simple but ..... I wasn't sure what to look at - so thanks

I uncommented the DRI section at the end of my xorg.conf file. So far so good.
I notice when it changes users (desktops) it ask for a password and has one of the kde screensavers going. I don't use these screensavers anymore and they are NOT enabled on any of the desktops. I use xscreensaver. This happens on all of the desktops and it seems to show the kde screensaver that person used to use. Now it shows the xscreensaver when just sitting. But when switching it has a kde one going with the password prompt.
hmmmm could it be related.

hmmm
I can log into any user but I have a real problem switching between users. Is there a file I should be looking to reconfigure? I just can't get my arms around this.
I'm using kde - any ideas??
It isn't all the time either. Usually it's been up some time - hours not days. My daughter and wife do a lot of Limewire and Amarok using.
I'm just not sure what to examine....
