Failed to start light display manager

Im new in linux, so i was setting up my desktop environment xfce4, installing a lightdm customization, after downloaded it and pasted it in the lightdm folder, i've changed some setting in "lightdm.conf", after a reboot it shows the error "Failed to start light display manager", is there a way to restore default setting in the "lighrdm.conf" file?

Re: Failed to start light display manager

Ctrl+Alt+F2, login, use command line to open the file in a text editor. Make the changes you need, save the file, reboot.

Yes you have to delete the DE package and all of his dipendence, but is better to try to fix it :
Log from tty and then post the ouput of

cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Re: Failed to start light display manager

@Niky04: Just a recommendation...you should get into the habit of making a backup of a configuration file before you make changes. Then you can easily revert to the backup if things don't work out. wink

Also, just my opinion, but display managers are something else that can break. I stopped using one a few years ago and just start my desktop environment from the command line using the command startx; checkout the how-to on the Arch Wiki.

Re: Failed to start light display manager

Is there an advantage to using startx as opposed to startxfce4?
