.wma - is it in w32codecs?

A friend of mine has recorded a lecture for me on his voice recorder.  He tells me the recording is encoded in .wma format sad
Is .wma supported by the w32codecs or do I have to find a windows install to work in?

Yeah, it's in the Win32 codecs. I believe that you can play it "striaght" using FFMPEG. Same difference though; the Win32 codecs employ FFMPEG for Windows Media files now, and FFMPEG is part of the MPlayer project.

Re: .wma - is it in w32codecs?

Thanks.  I don't know much about compression and decompression, so I'm guessing FFMPEG is a decompression algorithm for (in part or whole) the Wimdows Media Audio format.  Am I right?
More importantly, do I need to download and install Mplayer or can I play it using Kaffeine or Amarok?
Sorry for the questions, but I'm still on my GNU/Linux L-Plates and trying to take in as much as I can smile

Yes, you are correct about FFMPEG. And no, you don't need MPlayer, just the  Win32 codec package.
