HP 250 G7 Notebook PC WiFi Adapter

Hi,

I am having issues with HP 250 G7 Notebook. When I boot from my USB to perform an installation, it appears that there is no WiFi adapter installed. When I run..

ip link

It does not appear in the list.

There is one installed, so I took the following steps to diagnose the issue...

1. Check that the hardware is properly installed. It is actually there and appears to be connected properly.
2. HP's BIOS check utility has a component test check which returns a pass when selected.
3. Check that the WiFi adapter is enabled within the BIOS itself.

From a hardware and BIOS perspective, everything looks Ok, There is no OS on the machine at the moment so I am unable to test any further. My questions are...

Have I missed anything?

Are there any known issues where Linux would not see the adapter?

L.

Re: HP 250 G7 Notebook PC WiFi Adapter

Which wifi adapter exactly? Did you check dmesg for relevant messages on the module? A googler suggest multiple possible realtek chips, which are always a pain and might need to be done via the AUR which can be annoying during installation:  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8821ce-dkms-git or https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtw88-dkms-git/ . Your best bet here will likely be getting for example a phone tether or ethernet and trying to build one of these two packages depending on which actual chip https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository
