I have been attempting to run the AUR Proton VPN package. I have everything installed. I ran into some issues and reached out to proton tech support. I was told that I need one of Gnome Keyring or KWallet (this was not listed that I saw in the AUR but that is besides the point). I got Gnome Keying installed and still ran into issues so I sent tech support the logs. They identified what I also figured was the error, a line with:
KeyringDataNotFound: No such password!followed by aborting the attempt to connect. The instructions from Proton are:
Kindly note that from the connection logs we can see that this is probably the cause of the specific issue you are experiencing as indicated by the following line: KeyringDataNotFound: No such password!
Our Linux application is using the keyring manager to store the ProtonVPN login credentials and there might be some interference.
That being said, in order to check if the Gnome-keyring is properly unlocked/enabled, please navigate to the Passwords and Keys application, go to Passwords -> right-click on the Login section -> and make sure that it is unlocked. Also, you can click on the padlock icon, where you will be prompted to enter your Linux device password and click on the "Unlock" button.
Furthermore, please note that our Linux application is using the keyring manager to store the ProtonVPN login credentials. Therefore, kindly note that administrator privileges are required.
So this is now looking like a bit of the outside world not being cognizant of "the Arch way." I asked for clarification on what "navigate to the Passwords and keys" application refers to and received the answer:
To clarify, the "Passwords and keys" is an application on your system, therefore please try searching for it using the application launcher on your device, and proceed with the other steps outlined in our previous reply.
Needless to say, it is not, but I don't want to start debating with a tech support person who is largely trained to support Ubuntu and Fedora users or whatever, and think it now more appropriate to bring this question to the Arch forums where I don't need to explain about how I do things "the Arch way".
I do not run a full desktop, but just a window manager, usually either Awesome or Openbox.
Can someone point me to what the instructions refer to? I have never used Gnome Keyring for anything and only installed it as a part of trying to get Proton to work. The pacman keyring is, to my understanding, handled by gpg.
