(CLOSED)Keystrokes combination "fi" and "ff" do not "echo back" fr SSH

I noticed this issue today (new install of Arch) when using the SSH clients from Van Dyke - after I SSH into a server and type the "find" command (but before you hit enter) you see the "f" but nothing after it.  Hitting enter and the server sees is correctly as the "find" command.  A somewhat similar  behavior is occurring with the "konsole" program - with it when you type "fi" the cursor shifts over an extra character - its like there is now a non-displayable character after the "i" now - just as soon as the "i" is enter the cursor shifts 2 positions .  I'm currently using cinnamon as a desktop gui - but kde exhibited the same behavior.   I tried 2 different keyboards and got the same behaviors...Any suggestions where to look?

Well, those are ligatures.  I don't know exactly what is going on, but this has to be a clue.

That is interesting.  The "oe" combination does not exhibit that behavior but the "ff" or "fi" certainly does.  As before in KONSOLE you see the cursor jump 2 characters to the right as soon as you enter ff or fi - leaving you with a space.  But something else that I just notice - when that behavior occurs the "fi" or "ff" characters appear to change font size - they are smaller in size.   Here is a picture of what I'm talking about that shows that.  The last line that shows a rectangle at the end of the line is the actual cursor that has moved over 2 places...

Seth and ewaller - many kudos for your help - I would not have a clue where to start on this.   I did fumble around and found if I picked a difference font in securecrt (like the 2nd or 3 one their list) that behavior goes away.  And if I use another terminal program called "terminator" that problem also does not exist.  I may try to implement what seth pointed to - just as a science project - but right now I'm satisfied with the status quo.  Again thanks for your help.   Hopefully this thread might be helpful to the 0.0001% of users that may see it...
