[SOLVED] h2n zoom recorder and alsa

Hello,
I have a h2n zoom recorder which is plugged in via USB to my ArchLinux box. The volume works fine but I have issues with the microphone, which is too quiet.
I typed

sudo alsamixer

and hit F6 to select the sound card. However for h2n it says

This sound device does not have any controls

. Does this mean firmware is missing? I did install alsa-firmware but it did not help.

Just noticed the same error about not having any controls in `alsamixer` on my Ubuntu laptop. However, the recorded microphone volume there is OK. I don't understand this.

Hm, ok it seems fixing output levels via `pavucontrol` helped.

Yes this can be normal, a lot of USB devices rely on a software mixer  (which are default on Mac/Windows) and/or actual physical volume knobs and do not expose real controls to the operating system.

If this is [SOLVED] please mark it such by editing the title in the first post.
