Hi, I recently built a new PC with the following specifications:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Integrated GPU: Radeon Vega 7
Motherboard ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast DIMM DDR4 32GB 3200MHz
SSD: Samsung SSD 980 500GB
Attempting to boot the live USB or the installed system results to a black screen right after kernel launch (AFAIK) – when booting from live USB, boot entries are displayed, when I chose the installation, several messages are displayed, then the screen turns black. After installation, boot entries are displayed again, after selecting a boot entry, the last message I see is the initialized systemd version, then the screen turns black.
I only managed to proceed with installation after appending the `nomodeset` kernel parameter. I would obviously like to avoid this when using the system to avoid performance issues.
The full output of `journalctl -b -1`:

I can log into the system even with a black screen and run binaries (e.g. `reboot`), but the system is obviously unusable.
What I tried so far:
Installing graphics drivers accoring to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU (mesa, xf86-video-amdgpu, vulkan-radeon, libva-mesa-driver, mesa-vdpau)
Enabling microcode updates (installed amd-ucode, updating GRUB config with `grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg`) – even log shows the microcode updates
Running `linux-lts` kernel
Enabled early KMS in `/etc/mkinitcpio.conf` with: `MODULES=(amdgpu)`
Explicitely enabling IOMMU in BIOS as suggested in this thread and this Reddit post (also my kernel version is newer that the one they suggest that solves this)
The black screen still remains, the only way to get rid of it is to use the `nomodeset` kernel parameter.
Journal output with the LTS kernel: https://pastebin.com/eTRgvZcL
Any suggestions please?

Try to enforce a resolution you know to be supported by the ouput, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … cing_modes
If you have, you can also inject an edid, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … s_and_EDID
Speaking of which: HDMI? DisplayPort? Adapter (cable)? Dock?
I would obviously like to avoid this when using the system to avoid performance issues.
You're not getting a reasonable display server w/o modesetting anyway, but you might be lucky and the X11 driver has less issues to talk w/ the output.

After blindly listing available connectors in /sys/class/drm, I finally managed to boot using this kernel option:
video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080e
Which also answers your question, the display is connected via HDMI. EDID also finally appears after boot on this machine (it was empty on my laptop when the display was connected via DisplayPort).
What should I use as a permanent solution then? Injecting the edid using the `drm.edid_firmware` kernel option and in initramfs? Or should I just make the `video` kernel option permanent?
What if I change displays or the connector, will I have to repeat this process?

Unlikely - the problem is probably the monitor - do you have an alternative one you could test? (eg. a Tv?)

I just tried using the DisplayPort to connect the monitor instead of the HDMI and it works without any issues. I'll also try using another monitor through HDMI when I get the chance, but this is good enough for now.
Thank you very much for your help!
