On my last boot xorg started failing to launch my mate desktop, this happened after i updated my system so i think thats likely the cause.
http://ix.io/3IAA - my xorg log
http://ix.io/3IAH - my pacman log
i had an issue with my keyring that kept me from updating for a bit so i just updated a bunch of things all at once after i solved the keyring issue and my pacman log is very long.
plasma wayland still works great but xorg says it cant open display 0 and the log says segmentation fault at 0x0
http://ix.io/3IAP - my journalctl -b
any help/insight would be appreciated.
idk if it matters but im launching xorg with startx and i tried replacing my .xinitrc with a fresh one incase i messed something up in there without noticing but it didnt change anything.

i managed to fix xorg by downgrading nvidia, nvidia-utils, nvidia-settings and installing nvidia-dkms, dkms, linux headers but it seems to have broken my steam runtime. steam will only launch in wayland now, i tried using gdb to see what went wrong but it says it exited normally. running steam from cli just prints out 4 lines an exits. glances shows steam running with 0 cpu usage and 0.2% mem but no window ever shows up. none of the steam troubleshooting steps on the wiki have helped me and i dont think its actually a steam issue. maybe i broke my nvidia driver? i would expect that to prevent xorg from working or maybe games from launching but the application just does nothing at all. i tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, i tried using steam --reset and it said it was updating and then nothing.

I downgraded my linux and linux-headers and then ran steam --reset and it said failed to load module appmenu-gtk-module.

okay im going to mark the post as solved since my xorg issue was fixed, unfortunately the only reason i want to use xorg over wayland is better fps in steam games so being unable to play steam makes xorg pointless to me so i just fully updated my system and i guess ill be using kde/wayland until nvidia gets their act together i guess ill have to work on getting a good backup system going. thank you for the help.
