Proton games give black screen

Hello!

i have tested on wayland and X11 both are the same

when i use Proton games on my laptop it will give me a black screen, when it gives me the black screen im unable to do anything alt+tab, alt+f4 nothing works.
when using native games everything works just fine.

ill use 2 games as example for this, first is skyrim special editon (plus anniversary upgrade). the launcher starts but when i press play the game starts a black screen and i have to force restart to use my laptop again.
2nd game is minecraft dungeons its starts and plays the intro videos but after they are done they give me black screen unable to do anything.

what ive tried is looking at the log from steam by putting in the command

PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

looking at the log, myself with my understanding didnt find anything wrong.

again nothing with my understanding that seemed wrong.
then i tried the command

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

that takes me past the intro videos but its increadibly broken: https://imgur.com/a/EUgF4Ys

i really hope someone can help me.

Have you tried Glorious Eggroll Proton version?
What Proton versions have you tried to get the games running?
Check out www.protondb.com sometimes you find there good infos about how to fix a game.

i have tried normal proton and glorious eggroll proton. and this isnt a game specific issue this happens on ALL games that i use proton with

do me a solid, run steam in a terminal and see if post proton crash anything relevant shows up... may wanna use -v too

i have tried using

steam -v > steam.txt 

to get the log.
sadly because i have to force restart my system everytime i boot up a game because it black screens and im unable to do anything it did not save the log.
do you have any other idea how i could get the log?

im on my server not laptop till after xmas so i cant even see where the logs are stored if at all maybe another can help with that.  you got an amd gpu  ... more a ryzen with integrated radeon renoir right?  you running amdgpu, or vulkan-radeon?  i have angered my amd prior when using both and foud that most games just like the radeon one.  if you got that sanity check that vulkan is proper as well.  just some normal hickups i ran into when i migrated from nvidia

yea i know from using baulders gate 3 its sometimes a pita to uninstall / reinstall  amdgpu ... i do know that it overrides my use of vulkan so luckily just install the vulkrad package and if need amdgpu just reinstall for specific applications.

...if it was not installed... that may be part of the issue...

when you installed steam did you look at graphical requirements?

specifically..  i would poke through that and the steam wiki just to sanity check all mentinoed.  and i would (personal experience) stick to only vulkan-radeon or amdgpu packages

ah i have those 2 installed ill uninstall them and see if just vulkan-radeon works

Thank you so much Lilitu-Blackstar... I reinstalled amdvlk today, because I thought maybe it's the cause, but only uninstalling works. Thanks so much, you just made christmas for me!

btw. setting the config to use vulkan-radeon as explained in the wiki was not enough, tried that today morning.
