No window decorations in Beryl [solved]

I tried to run Beryl on my i915GM laptop. I think I installed all the packages, and changed the xorg.conf as described in the wiki. I use kde, and put the link to beryl-manager in the Autostart directory.

When I open windows, they have no decorations at all, and the two menu options in beryl about window decorations are greyed out.

Have I forgotten anything?

Have you installed emerald or aquamarine as your window decorator?
I used emerald and was able to get decorations after a bit of fiddling and it seems that I got frustrated and rebooted the system and then had decorations. I wish I could be more exact or detailed.

How long has lowarch been around? I'm going to load this today on a couple of machines! Thanks for doing this - really.

I used to have the same problem, here are some things to look for.
1. You need a ColorDepth of 24 in xorg.conf.
2. Make sure that you haven't set XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS.
3. (For Nvidia) There is something you need to be sure you have in the xorg.conf, but I forget it offhand and it doesn't relate to you, of course.

Re: No window decorations in Beryl [solved]

Thanks for the advices, I'll boot back into Arch, and try it out (I'm in Lowarch now, and I don't think I'll ever make beryl packages for it..)

It's quite new. It was released on the 14th of November, and I've been working on it for a bit over a month. But I'm using it most of the time now, and it seems quite stable and usable. It's got a huge download count of about 20. A few people have problems installing from cd, so I'm working on a floppy installer now.

As you can see on the home page, I'm trying to keep packages up to date, but it'll never be close to Arch's uptodateness. I'm working on reducing the number of packages, while at the same time, adding more useful packages.

You can read more about it in this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=26916

Re: No window decorations in Beryl [solved]

I searched a bit, and found the solution:
Beryl doesn't work if icons in kde are disabled.
I just enabled icons, and everything works smile

For reference, this info was written in Arch's Beryl wiki entry.

Ahh, I'm sorry. I actually searched through it, but failed to notice it. I'll have to start using glasses. But I don't think my eyes are my problem. Maybe I can get glasses for my brain?
