[Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

Hi everyone,

I have to reboot an old computer (HP zbook g3). I installed arch+dwm: "Linux ArchyCryo 5.10.88-2-lts", everything goes right until my first video (2 months later...the goal is not to listen/watch music everytime). I have no sound with the internal speakers (i have a huge beep when I'm making mistake). In pavucontrol, I have dummy output. And I'm not mute in alsamixer.
BUT, It works fine with an external monitor, that seems normal because in pavucontrol i change the output for the HDMI channel and the speakers of the external screen works fine.

Is it possible that sound card have no analog output ?

$ lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Audio
libkmod: kmod_config_parse: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf line 5: ignoring bad line starting with 'options'
01:00.1 Audio device [0403]: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 High Definition Audio Controller [GeForce 940MX] [10de:0fbc] (rev a1)
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:80d4]
        Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

From what I've seen in different posts, I add the following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel model=hp
options snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1

and if it could help to get an answer my other outputs are :

Re: [Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

Hi,

In my case, I do not have "built in Audio" (it's what I'm looking for)
Could you show me the outputs of :

lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Audio
cat /proc/asound/card
cat /proc/asound/devices

and pictures of alsamixer for the two different cards (with F6 you could choose)

alsamixer

Re: [Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

What happens if you switch off of the Pro profile? What are your outputs for

pactl list cards
pactl list sinks

Please edit your post and make that image a link or a max 200x200 thumbnail.

Re: [Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

Sorry got sidetracked by lemoce hijack who doesn't have the same issue and should have opened another thread.

In your case you should try removing alsa-base.conf and install sof-firmware and reboot to check whether it's simply a matter of a sof-firmware card, also what's your output of

sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'

Re: [Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

Ok, I understand.

I deleted alsa-base.conf and installed sof-firmware. Nothing happend.
After a reboot I got :

$ sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'

Re: [Audio] No sound, analog-output speaker and headphone not existing

Then it reads like you literally have no (analog) audio device, check your BIOS/EFI potentially disabled there, if not check for an update of said UEFI version, hopefully fixed there.
