Flickering monitor

Hello,

Before I figure out whether this may be a hardware issue, I thought I'd cover the software side.

The monitor in question is an Eizo Flexscan EV2451-BK.

The other monitor is an older LG monitor and the fact that I don't have issues with that one points towards a hardware issue for me.

I'm using Xfce as a DE.

As stated in the title, one of my two monitors is flickering slightly when I move or resize windows, scroll through webpages ow when I use certain software (Blender and Freecad, mostly). The flickering is either a slight change in brightness or a subtle change in hue, generally very subtle, but annoying. In extreme cases, I have small artifacts in the screen corners. It only happens when stuff is moving on screen, although playing videos doesn't seem to trigger the flickering.

Here's what I tried (and what didn't work):

- Update GPU drivers
- Turn off compositor
- "xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode -s glx/xpresent/off", all three options don't change anything.
- Change input methods for the monitor (i.e. change from Displayport to HDMI, change which plug to use on the GPU)

I don't have access to another PC, so I can't check whether the problem happens on other machines as well.

Has anyone any ideas where to poke further?

TIA

Re: Flickering monitor

Can you create video of this flickering monitor and post a link?

Re: Flickering monitor

Also post the output of "xrandr -q" and your xorg log.
If you're using xf86-video-intel, remove that and try the built-in modesetting driver.

no intel video drivers at all, but nvidia.

Can you create video of this flickering monitor and post a link?

I tried, but it's too subtle for my phone (the only camera I have at hand) to pick up. It's really super subtle, but nonetheless distracting.

Re: Flickering monitor

Nothing out of the order - most likely cable (loosely seated or damaged)

Can you reproduce this when
a) cloning the output (both at pos 0x0)
b) running the Eizo at 1024x768@60?
c) Disabling the LG and only using the Eizo
d) running the Eizo on the HDMI  port the LG is currently hooked onto

I think I'm ready to call this an issue with the unit I'm having.

- Switched between input methods (Displayport/HDMI, different Displayport sockets on the GPU)
- Swapped cables.
- Changed the resolution.

I have a laptop with HDMI, I'll see what happens with that one, but I don't see that helping me solve the issue anyway.

Time to contact Eizos support.

Thanks for your input. I'll mark it solved, or is there something other? Because it's not really solved?
