[SOLVED] No command prompt after booting on tty1

After installing a DE and lightdm I don't get a command prompt on tty1 at boot up. I see this followed by a flashing cursor.

Starting version 250.2-2-arch
ArchLinux: clean, 304255/19660800 files, 5412519/78643200 blocks

I wonder if I need to install missing packages or do some configuration?

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/49527

You can use a drop-in file to clear the Conflicts= line: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/System … ided_units
Edit: or maybe not a drop-in in this case as the note on the wiki says.

Re: [SOLVED] No command prompt after booting on tty1

Maybe @aianson should clarify whether they wish to be able to login on TTY1 or to have lightdm appear there.
In case of the former, they'd rather want to disable the lightdm service or boot the multi-user.target instead of the graphical.target.

Lightdm starts up and runs fine. The issue is just that there is no command prompt on tty1. The boot process doesn't seem to finish up and give me a command prompt there. Or something else, I'm not sure.

There are others I can use, tty[2-6] so it's not a big problem. It just makes me wonder.

Then it's indeed just the (deliberate) conflict that Raynman pointed out.

It could be, I have read his post and looked at the links but I am not clear on what file(s) I need to change.

I did comment out the conflicts line in the lightdm.service file and now tty1 is usable.

Thank you all for your comments. I wonder if there is a reason for the conflicts line and if I should leave it as is?

I would like to mark this thread as solved but I don't see a way to do that.

Re: [SOLVED] No command prompt after booting on tty1

The the linked bug, it's because of a visual flash during the boot.

Mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
