[SOLVED] Overriding specific icons in .local/share/icons possible?

With `.desktop` files, the file in `./local` takes precedence over the file in `/usr/share`. I've been trying to do the same with icons. I'm using the Papirus theme and I want to override a couple of icons.

If I overwrite the icon in `/usr/local/share/icons/Papirus-Dark` it works, however, if I place them in `~/.local/share/icons/Papirus-Dark` with the same directory structure, it doesn't. Is there a way to have icons loaded by precedence in the same way .desktop files are? Overriding the icons in `/usr/` isn't ideal as I need to do it every time the package is updated.

never mind, it's the way that Papirus handles different folder variations. I was trying to override `folder-black` which actually never gets used by applications.
