Wacky Mobo?

Tried to install here with the hardware below will not boot properly?  Black screen returned.

Machine:
  Type: Desktop System: Micro-Star product: MS-7B98 v: 1.0
    serial: <superuser required>
  Mobo: Micro-Star model: Z390-A PRO (MS-7B98) v: 1.0
    serial: <superuser required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 1.E1
    date: 11/17/2021

in grub install with a verbose output shows that boot entry was added.  However, in the bios the bootloader id is not present.  I made sure that I added the --recheck option during the bootloader install.  If I use an automated installer, like another distro, it installs fine.

It appears that there is something that I'm not doing.
