Can't mount NTFS partitions after ntfs-3g package upgrade.

The issue is that a minute ago (before upgrade) I was working normaly with my NTFS partitions. Then after upgrade to the latest version of ntfs-3g package FUSE refuses to mount them sad.

I didnt mess with anything (udev or whatever). Is it sth with the package ?

Fuse does:

[root@ichi matchil]# mount /dev/sdb1
fusermount: mount failed: No such device
Failed to create FUSE mount point.
Retry to create FUSE mount point ...
fusermount: mount failed: No such device
Failed to create FUSE mount point.
Unmounting /dev/sdb1 (USB_1)

But as I said it was working before an upgrade.

Please help.

P.S.: Maybe one have an old version of this package ? and BTW the package on the ntfs-3g site is said to be a BETA and there is no sufix like '-beta' in the package name in EXTRA repo, shouldnt it be in a TESTING or UNSTABLE repo anyway ?

P.P.: Luckly I've found the previous version on google and have it installed back - working just fine. I dont know if the package was the reason why it was not mounting.

On ntfs-3g page its written:

Why do I get "fusermount: mount failed: No such device" messages?
The used FUSE kernel module is old and it isn't compatible with the latest and safest NTFS-3G driver. The FUSE kernel module must be at least version 2.6.0 to guarantee maximum reliability. You can check the FUSE kernel version in the following way, the versions must be the same as the below ones:

grep fuse /var/log/messages         # (or dmesg | grep fuse)
kernel: fuse init (API version 7.8 )
  kernel: fuse distribution version: 2.6.0

For me API Version is 7.6, maybe the kernel module is the reason. But the FUSE package in repo seems to be up-to-date.

If anyone encounter the same problem I will keep the old package version.

Peace.

yeah i got the same prob, downloaded an old pkg too with my findoldpkg script. (which is basically just an automation of the wiki guide on downgrading packages and too unfinished & buggy and therefore too embarrasing to post smile)

Re: Can't mount NTFS partitions after ntfs-3g package upgrade.

I have to say I don't use ntfs-3g myself, but I was requested to update NOW, IMMEDIATELY, NOOOOOW. I didn't realize that the fuse kernel module is too old for it (fuse package 2.6.0 didn't complain about it being too old and I can use other fuse filesystems).

I think there is not much we can do but wait for the next kernel version or patch the kernel to have a later fuse module. I will examine our options on that matter.

Re: Can't mount NTFS partitions after ntfs-3g package upgrade.

Good news. I created a patch for kernel 2.6.19 that incorporates the fuse changes into the kernel tree. That means that the new 2.6.19-ARCH kernel that enters testing today or tomorrow will work with the latest ntfs-3g version.

Re: Can't mount NTFS partitions after ntfs-3g package upgrade.

Now I am using this patch with 2.6.19-beyond1, everything works, beside I can't mount ntfs drives as regular user, because: "fusermount: option blkdev is privileged". I don't know what is wrong?
