JWM failed to connect to X for non-root users

Hello, just a heads up for the package maintainers or anyone who may find this problem. After a full system upgrade X would not start, isolated the problem at the WM's privileges, other WMs work OTB, so I'm switching.

This is the 3rd time it happens and I was able to fix it in the past by changing permissions/ownership of some file or other but it's been a while and I forgot how (even chmoding 777 xinit, X, startx, etc and no luck following the Wiki on correcting xinitrc, xserverrc either). So maybe it's no longer fixable this way.

JWM's official page says to run from /usr/local/bin but Arch's doesn't seem to use that directory anyway, but maybe a directory permission or hardcoded path?

Searching the forum it may be the case that the project is not being maintained? Again other WMs work OTB and I'll probably not read any replies but I'll keep it installed if any useful tests are suggested otherwise.

Kudos.

Re: JWM failed to connect to X for non-root users

JWM doesn't look dead to me. The Arch JWM package was updated to the latest version in December 2021. https://archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/jwm/

That JWM version was released in November 2021. http://joewing.net/projects/jwm/release-2.4.html

The JWM developer responded to bug reports as recently as four days ago. https://github.com/joewing/jwm/issues

In any event, if you are having problems and want support here, you will need to provide more information. If you want to report a bug either in the Arch package or the JWM project itself, this is not the right place for that.
