[solved]unknkwn process remapping keys after login

I use KDE/i3 with sddm.

After I login, my Caps Lock key is remappped to super.

 setxkbmap -print -query

Shows

 options: caps:super,altwin:meta_alt

I don't even get a blue light indicator on the caps lock key.

When I clear this manually with setxkbmap, I get normal functionality again.

I have caps lock before login, at least at the sddm screen, it works.

After Plasma/i3 load, this odd behavior happens.

There have been no changes to my i3.conf or KDE preferences before this started.

Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?

Update: caps lock was being remapped by KDE settings. I don't recall ever doing this, but I was able to correct it there.

I thought then it had to do with Steam. This is a better explanation of the issue.
