Poor performance with PCSX2

Hi folks, I recently tried to replay some PS2 titles with PCSX2, and I'm faced with quite poor performances on the two games I tested so far, so I was wondering if anyone had the same experience, or if I can fix some settings in PCSX2 or elsewhere...

The performance problem:
Frame drops to 50%, and the game slows accordingly.
I encountered this on two titles so far, JAK II (right in the first cinematic) and Ratchet : Gladiator (when arriving on Catacrom 4).

I've already use PCSX2 on the same system, but on Windows, and I don't remember that kind of perfs trouble.

The specs of the machine:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz
2x4G RAM
GPU : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Tahiti XT [Radeon HD 7970/8970 OEM / R9 280X] (it's a R9 280X)

Also, my WM is sway, could it impact PCSX2 somehow ?

I've tried to fiddle with the PCSX2 settings (vulkan/opengl, graphics renderer, VU, speedhacks, etc) but to no avail (maybe because I don't know what I'm doing).

Does anyone have encountered something like that and have an idea to fix it ?
Unless my machine is just not powerful enough ?

Thanks a lot if you have ideas wink

PCSX2 dependencies list libx11 , sway uses wayland instead of Xorg .
The only way sway can run pcsx2 is by using xwayland which runs X on top of wayland .
Running X applications under xwayland often has performance penalties .

Start a normal Xorg environment and test PCSX2 performance under the environment it's written for .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

This ^^^

I also wonder if you are running PCSX2 under Flatpak instead of Native, as I have tried running Steam Games, Zandronum/GZDoom, and OpenMW under Flatpak and suffered serious performance losses. Someone please correct me if there are fixes for running 3D Games or Emulating 3D Titles under Flatpak without experiencing heavy losses.

According to this https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/4905 and this https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/1 … -955173580 PCSX2 does support wayland.
I'm gonna test that when I'm home to check.

I'm not, I use the package from the official repositories.
