Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

OK,
I cannot for the life of me see the problem.
I'm using intel 945GM. I have 1280x800 res. using 915res. But i do not have glx

It's strange. For a while I was using beryl and emerald and then a week or two a go I got the white screen and just removed it. It was fun but not worth screwing with.
I assume this was part of the problem....maybe.
Tonight I was going to play a game or see if it would play with this graph card and recieved the above.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
McRae

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

Take a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any lines starting with (WW) or (EE) - they might say why you don't have glx

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

I've checked my /var/log/Xorg.0.log  and found a couple of warnings but no errors

(II) Primary Device is: PCI 00:02:0
(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
(WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found

wait here's an error

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

and

(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/PEX" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic".
        Entry deleted from font path.
        (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic").
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/ttf/western" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/ttf/decoratives" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/truetype" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/openoffice" does not exist.

(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-bitstream-vera" does not exist
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/latex-ttf-fonts" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/defoma/CID" does not exist.
        Entry deleted from font path.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/defoma/TrueType" does not exist.

there are a couple of others but hopefully this will show something to someone more familiar.
the other errors are memory allocation and warnings about my vert refresh.
so X is working I just can't get GLX going.

Thanks to any help,
McRae

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

That's the one - what're the last few lines before that?  Might give more idea as to why it can't find it.  Maybe you need to reinstall nvidia-utils?

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

I don't think this is a groups issue, but see if you're added to the video group.

Also, my xorg.conf loads glx BEFORE dri, not sure if that make's a difference (basically move Load glx before Load dri).

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

tardo (hehe I like the screen name btw),
I checked and added my self to the video group and switched dri and glx order.
Unfortunately it didn't change it sad  Hey, thanks for looking at it though! Really.

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

Here's my xorg.conf that works with AIGLX. Maybe it will help you =/ (only difference is I'm using 1440x900)
xorg.conf

besides that, i think one of your packages might be borked.

Okay, try reinstalling libgl-dri - that should contain the glx module.  See if that gets rid of the odd nvidia message

Re: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0

Cerebral & tardo,

Thank you both so much.
That did it. Removed nvidia -utils and reinstalled dri and it worked like a champ!

How in the hell did I install nvidia-utils
I have nvidia on my desktop and probably just did one night in error.......how damn embarrassing!

Sorry to take ya'lls time up on an error that stupid. But I'm sure glad you guys helped me out.

Take Care,
McRae
