Calibre dies with munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer Aborted

I've been trying to get Arch's version of Calibre to work for the past month and keep getting this error.

munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer
Aborted

I have removed it and installed the "official" version from Kovid and it works BUT when I use Calibre's epub viewer it complains with  the below message and then never actually makes it possible to view the epub.

calibre, version 5.38.0
ERROR: Render process crashed: The Qt WebEngine Render process has crashed. You should try restarting the viewer.

I have read another post that said it might be a problem with the openjdk version but I've updated everything and haven't had any change that I can tell. Any ideas?
