[solved] using Plasma. gtk apps horrible font rendering

I use KDE. my main gtk apps (firedfox and deluge) suddenly began showing the most horrible font rendering. the bookmark bar in firefox is barely legible to me.

I use KDE Syetem Settings to manage gtk apps. I use liberation fonts, in my qt apps, and they render perfectly. using the gtk theme manager, I simply have Arc-Darkest selected.

any suggestions? i don't now where to begin.

i don't now where to begin.

By quantifying "most horrible" (link a screenshot), also whether this is X11 or wayland and whether eg. gtk3-demo is affected (firefox is barely gtk, not sure about deluge - esp. if it's the web client… in firefox)

after changing back to an earlier gtk theme (Arc-darkest), the situation is remedied. not sure if that fixed it or not, but the fonts are readable. thanks.
