[SOLVED] Terminus bitmap font invisible in GTK, works fine in Qt
Hello Community,
I know that recent library changes (Pango? Harfbuzz?) caused a series of issues: Terminus was renamed to xos4 Terminus, then bitmap font rendering was dropped for fonts other than in OTB format, but currently I think I have another issue...
I use Terminator, where Terminus is my font of choice. Recently after upgrade this font is selectable, but does not render at all:

As you can see it can be selected, but is invisible. Same thing happens in actual terminal. QTerminal works fine.
And now the weird part - font is rendering when I disable anti-aliasingenable hinting (see below).

What if you move away /usr/share/fonts/misc/ter-*pcf.gz and update the font cache?

The proposed workaround (to disable anti-aliasing for this font family) worked. Touching .pcf files made no difference, because in terminator (GTK) I can only select .otb fonts anyway.
I found a similar post here and that led me to some experimenting. What I found out: bitmap font invisibility depends on hinting, not on anti-aliasing. If hinting is set to [none], glyphs are invisible. Any other option - [slight], [full] - works
Because there are two workarounds presented here I'm marking this post as solved, however these are not the solutions for the underlying problem. Not even sure which component might be the culprit... Any ideas?
