[SOLVED] Wifi not working "Could not set interface 'p2p-dev-wlp6s0 UP"

My first arch install is booting well and seems to be fine, apart from not being able to connect to wifi. My wifi card is being recognized, and it seems the drivers are installed on the system, but all attempted connections fail.

Here are some command outputs that may be useful.

ip addr show

# ip addr show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1000
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
    inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
    inet6 ::1/128 scope host
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: enp3s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 24:4b:fe:dd:e6:42 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.168.0.86/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global dynamic noprefixroute enp3s0
       valid_lft 5930sec preferred_lft 5930sec
    inet6 fe80::b113:c713:3f32:fb0d/64 scope link noprefixroute
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
3: wlp6s0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN group default qlen 1000
    link/ether ca:b3:1e:24:5d:44 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff permaddr 9c:fc:e8:f1:0d:83

Note: The system is connected to Ethernet currently, however this is not a permanent solution for me.

sudo ip link set dev wlp6s0 up

# sudo ip link set dev wlp6s0 up

Note: command returns no output and the output of ip addr show remains the same (and shows that wlp6s0 is DOWN)

So the driver is being started?

So the required driver seems to be in place?

I've spent several hours on the forums and nothing I've tried has worked.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi not working "Could not set interface 'p2p-dev-wlp6s0 UP"

the p2p interface error is normal and not generally cause for concern, is NetworkManager the only enabled service? Post

find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f
sudo journalctl -b

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/List_o … n_services after reproducing your issue. In general if you actually want to use NetworkManager, the tool to do connections via cli is called nmcli/nmtui or alternatively GUI integrations like nm-applet or whatever's included in every bigger DE. wifi-menu is part of the netctl project and should not be used/mixed with NetworkManager.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi not working "Could not set interface 'p2p-dev-wlp6s0 UP"

Turns out the problem was me! I was unaware that I shouldn't use wifi-menu with NetworkManager.

I switched to using nmcli for connections and it worked immediately

# nmcli device wifi connect 'mynetwork' password 'mynetworkpasswd'
Device 'wlp6s0' successfully activated with 'fb120987-6851-4c19-94c0-48640ff38c1b'.

I apologize for taking up your time with what ended up being simple user error due to inexperience.
Thank you so much for your assistance!
