Will this be painless?

getting an nvidia card with dual head.

Questions,

1) Will that just slot straight into the mobo, no extra fiddling?
2) 2d easy to setup?

Re: Will this be painless?

I've got me on of those (well, not that card exactly, but a 6800GT), and it's pretty much the same setup as any other nvidia card.
pacman -S nvidia

I assume you've got a PCI express interface (agp won't do it).
Other than that, this card rocks!

This card is *powerful* so I guess you'll have to plug an alim connector on it like every mid/high-end graphic cards.

Re: Will this be painless?

#1: if your motherboard has pci express, and your powersupply enough juice (quite sure it doesn't need any more power than the pci express slot gives), and it fits in your case...

#2 It's not

though i'm not aquainted with linux nvidia drivers, my experience with ati (which has worse drivers (closed source wise at least) is that you just add monitor and device sections for the second head and a line in the serverlayout section to the like of

 Screen "aticonfig-Screen[1]" Leftof "aticonfig-Screen[0]"

to the xorg.conf
though its quite likely that the utility that you use for the closed source drivers can be made to configure from the start both heads

and then you add the appropriate lines in your server flags section to enable xinerama (or some other equivalent (merged fb?) if you want to be able to move windows from one head to the other and use the same window manager?) though that is not necessary

pretty unspecific, but I'm sure other people have had more experience with nvidia hardware

edit: whoa, those posts come fast

testing ati

I'm not sure i understand you. Why ati, when you've got an nvidia card?

I cant find the command to stop this

You mean a pacman freeze? ctrl+c is pretty universal.

Use another mirror if you can't fetch the packages normally.

Not necessarily. I have no extra power supplied to my 6800GT. Also i run a dual2core CPU and my power supply is only rated @ 250 watts. (chieftech though...)
