Linux Hardened

I just did system upgrades for the day.... noted that Linux Hardened and its headers were being upgraded. I always do a manual reboot after upgrading the kernel because oftentimes the pipe or tunnel for VPN connections will not be available if you do not reboot. Anyway, long story short - the system will not boot.

It is hung on that message that I researched and tied back to Arch deciding not to use a memory intense portion of the kernel (one search results of many). Regardless - Linux hardened will not boot. Obviously, I reloaded my last backup for sda1 (March). I will wait.

Care to share that message?

Re: Linux Hardened

My apologies, at the time I needed a quick solution. However, I have recreated the problem by upgrading. The situation remains the same, system will not boot:

Failed to find valid kernel BTF
Error loading vmlinux BTF:-3
failed to load object 'iterators.btf'
Failed load could be due to wrong endianness

I have attempted to work this error in the past. I found that one explanation was that Arch was not using something in the kernel because it is memory intense.
I am not sure if this is why this sytem will not boot, it has been happening for awhile. Kernel definitely updated today... scant other programs.

Re: Linux Hardened

I do not have a library issue. My system will not boot after upgrading the linux hardened kernel. This message did not start today. The boot error did occur today.

Re: Linux Hardened

Given the cause is not 69155 there is nothing to go on beyond the fact it started with an update to linux hardened.  You verified the kernel update is the cause by repeating the update but with linux-hardened set to ignore?
Is the issue limited to linux-hardened?  What kernel versions/packages do work?  Is there anything in the journal from a failed boot?

Re: Linux Hardened

I have the same issue with linux-hardened 5.17.9.hardened1-1. The system does not boot completely. The journal ends at the work of the systemd. Downgrading the package version temporarily solves the issue.

Re: Linux Hardened

My first thought was to downgrade. I set "s" on command line, as always..... but the system will not boot into single-user.... it will not boot. I would have to set ignore from March backup - not wise. Looks like I might have to abandon Linux Hardened.  I see my only option as changing kernels, which will not hopefully give me any trouble. Updating from March was not easy.

Please post the journal from the failed boot of linux-hardened 5.17.9.hardened1-1 and and the journal for a boot of linux 5.17.9.arch1-1.

I don't have linux 5.17.9.arch1-1 installed.

The bug has already been reported. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/74814

Re: Linux Hardened

Thanks, I will wait. I do not have the skills to contribute further.... I learned something tho. To find out where the boot is hanging, take 'quiet' off command line.

Re: Linux Hardened

There are a number of test kernels linked on the bug report to try and locate the cause of the issue,  if you are willing to try them.
