[SOLVED] Kdenlive - missing icons in XFCE

Hi everyone,

I just installed Kdenlive. However if I start it in XFCE most of the toolbar-icons are missing. I found this article. But it suggests to install a package from AUR and I'm not sure whether it's safe to do that or not. I'm willing to install (a part of) KDE to make Kdenlive work. I don't care about the additional space, these packages would occupy, as long as the (partial ?) installation of KDE would actually solve the above problem and most importantly not interfere with the normal functioning of XFCE. Do you know what KDE-packages I would need to install in order to make Kdenlive work under XFCE? And would these additional installations break XFCE and cause other problems?

Best Regards

If the issue is related to the adwaita icon theme, I'd suggest trying a different one (as also suggested in the linked post).
Personally I switched to papirus-icon-theme

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried that theme but unfortunately the results were still the same. So I changed the theme back. This is, how it looks:

If only I knew the correct combination of packages, which I need to install in order to solve this. When I was still using GNOME Kdenlive's icons looked fine. So I assume that it must be a package or set of packages, which GNOME and KDE have in common.

Re: [SOLVED] Kdenlive - missing icons in XFCE

I finally figured out the solution. The package kdenlive has the package breeze-icons as a required dependency. And indeed if one starts Kdenlive and clicks on settings, one can set the option "Enforce Breeze-Symbol-Design". This was enough to make the missing icons appear. However if you try this and the icons are still missing try to install the complete breeze - package and then try the above solution again, also have a look at settings -> color scheme or settings -> style. However I doubt that the installation of the whole breeze-package is necessary. This package also has a required dependency to breeze-icons. Anyway this issue has been solved.

Re: [SOLVED] Kdenlive - missing icons in XFCE

I want to say that installing the full breeze theme is what solved this issue for me. It wasn't so much that the icons were 'missing' it was that they were using a dark theme but the kde theme was light. I suppose some extra tweaking of QT settings might have solved that, but just installing the full theme fixed it.

Maybe breeze should be a hard dependency for this package, since I wouldn't call it's current setup "working" if it's installed in a non-KDE environment.
