Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

Hey, so I originally used Proprietary nvidia drivers and switched to nouveau drivers recently, nouveau drivers didn't really work well for me, a few programs I use didn't support it and it was laggy... So I ran 'sudo Pacman -S nvidia' then blacklisted the nouveau drivers and rebooted, after rebooting there is no GUI, I can access the terminal using Ctrl alt F2, and i ran " lspci -mnk | grep -i vga -A3 | grep 'in use' " and it gives an empty output, then I ran 'dmesg | grep nvidia' and 'dmesg | grep nouveau' and 'lsmod | grep nvidia' and 'lsmod | grep nouveau' all of them giving empty outputs, then I tried 'modprobe nvidia' which gives "Module nvidia not found in directory/lib/modules/5.18.5-arch1"

What I'm understanding from this is that neither nvidia not nouveau drivers are running

And mkinitcpio -p linux gives "module not found: 'nvidia' "

How to I fix this?

Re: Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

nvidia-utils auto-blacklists nouveau.

I ran 'sudo Pacman -S nvidia'

Module nvidia not found in directory/lib/modules/5.18.5-arch1

You either ran a partial update or botched the kernel update.

pacman -Qs '(nvidia|linux)'
uname -a

What exactly do I do now?

Also, running "uname -a" gives "Linux vanta-home 5.15.53-1-lts #1 SMP Fri, 08 Jul 2022 12:38:20 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux"

Re: Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

Post the required pacman output?

The running kernel doesn't match the previously posted error message, but you'll of course need the nvidia-lts package along the LTS kernel.

I used "cd /lib/modules/" and then ls shows "5.15.53-1-lts  5.18.9-arch1-1" is this normal? then I downloaded the lts drivers and I finally have gui again, but everything is extremely laggy, how do I fix this?

Re: Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

Please use code tags, https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

You don't have the nvidia pacakge installed (for the 5.18.9 kernel) and idk. what you did there, but nvidia-utils isn't in the list either, so when you look at your xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General you'll likely find that you're running on the VESA driver - with all the advanced graphical technology of the mid 90ies…

Re: Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

Don't mindlessly copy and paste from teh code boxes. Read at least the whole section.
There's certainly no Xorg.0.log in your $HOME or your porn folder or whatever $PWD currently happens to be.

Re: Unable to switch to nvidia drivers

Closing by request.

However if you've found the solution of a somewhat lengthy support thread, consider marking it as  [SOLVED] instead and actually mentioning the solution you've come across: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Genera … way_street

Edit: Wormzy was first, look at their post as well.

My bad, I read it right after posting that, anyway, I think I'll just get a fresh install. Thanks for you help...
