Not sure if there is a config setting that needs to be turned on or a program that needs to be installed. But I can't seem to get Firefox to launch any third party applications(Zoom, Slack etc) in Gnome I had a KDE install that worked just fine. And the dialog never pops up to select the application and there is nothing the log.

is xdg-desktop-portal-gnome installed?

Yes. Tried reinstalling no luck. My gnome install included all the programs that came with the gnome group, plus gnome-tweaks & gnome-usage. Other than that its mostly a fresh install and I was starting to install additional programs when I tried logging into Slack which is when I came across this issue.
Installed Chromium. This browser issues the dialog but I get no response when I let it open the app. It is suggesting xdg-open as the application instead of zoom? Nothing in the log(Checking journalctl). Both programs I have tried are flatpaks. Tried with AUR zoom and it launches just fine.
So this is a flatpak issue. Is there a program or setting I need to allow browsers to open flatpak installed programs?

Is that the same dialog shown when downloading something ?
Recently the default setting for that changed to "open in firefox" .
Check edit > settings > general , scroll down to Applications .
To get back to my preferred setting "Always ask" I had to manually change practically all of them.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Na its a flatpak issue. Something is not letting firefox detect programs that are installed via flatpaks. Odd that its not asking me to search for the program to tell it which one is correct. Must be a windows thing
