printers color mode settings are ignored

Working:
black and white printing
Not working:
printing in color is not working, i.e. when changing the Color Mode in Settings > Printer > Printing Options > Color > Color Mode from Black and White to Color
two lines in /var/log/cups/error_log are created

W [12/Jul/2022:15:59:03 +0200] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.ColorManager.AlreadyExists:profile id \'Ricoh-MP-C4503-PS-Gray..\' already exists
W [12/Jul/2022:15:59:03 +0200] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.ColorManager.AlreadyExists:profile id \'Ricoh-MP-C4503-PS-CMYK..\' already exists

and the change is not applied. (reopening Printing Options after closing them still displays Black and White as color mode). Can somebody point me in a direction?

Hardware:
Ricoh-MP-C4503
