Cant get my monitor working on 144hz

Hello,
My monitor/pc specs are: 3840x2160 144hz (Model:Viewsonic Elite XG320U), and the Gpu Rx 6900 Xt
Linux only detects up to 3840x2160 60hz, there are options for 120hz with 2560x1440 but I want to use my monitor in 4k.
I tried to add a newmode on xrandr like mentioned in here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xrandr … esolutions but it does not work. Im still stuck at 60hz.
Im using a display port 1.4 which support 4k 144hz.

No, it doesn't.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Ok, i connected it via hdmi 2.1 instead. Managed to add it correctly this time. I only need to test it to see if i really get 144hz now.

[maru@Hyuri ~]$ cvt 3840 2160 144

And how i added it:

[maru@Hyuri ~]$ xrandr --newmode "3840x2160_144.00"  1829.25  3840 4200 4624 5408  2160 2163 2168 2350 -hsync +vsync
[maru@Hyuri ~]$ xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 "3840x2160_144.00"

Whenever i try to run this:  [maru@Hyuri ~]$ xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 3840x2160_144.00

I get the following response: xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed

Re: Cant get my monitor working on 144hz

Update: I tried other hz rates to see if they work, failed to get 120hz and 144hz working (when i try to change to 144hz i get the xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed error,
and when i try to create a newmode for 120hz i get the error :

X Error of failed request:  BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request:  140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request:  16 (RRCreateMode)
Serial number of failed request:  41
Current serial number in output stream:  41

3840x2160 100hz worked on display port(gave crtc 0 failed error on hdmi 2.1) without any errors but monitor sometimes goes black for a second then comes back. (still 100hz)

Re: Cant get my monitor working on 144hz

Is this has something to do with AMD drivers or do cables do not support it? Because when i was using WIndows 10 before, it worked perfectly fine after installing amd drivers, so i dont think problem is with the cables.

Re: Cant get my monitor working on 144hz

If you want the changes at 144 Hz to be persistent for future logins I think you need to create a file inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/. You can name something like 10-monitor.conf and it should contain your preferred mode along these lines:

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier "HDMI-1" (???)
        Modeline "3840x2160_144.00" 1829.25 3840 4200 4624 5408 2160 2163 2168 2350 -hsync +vsync
	Option "PreferredMode" "3840x2160_144.00"
EndSection

where I have basically cut and paste the output of cvt for the new mode you want to create. That should make it start always under this mode everytime you logout/in or reboot. What out for the ??? because I don't know if that is correct (HDMI-1).

Edit: or you can just follow the wiki .... https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xrandr … esolutions

Re: Cant get my monitor working on 144hz

Please use code tags, not quote tags and post your xorg log.

You could test

% cvt12 3840 2160 144 -b
# 3840x2160 @ 144.000 Hz Reduced Blank (CVT) field rate 144.000 Hz; hsync: 333.216 kHz; pclk: 1306.21 MHz
Modeline "3840x2160_144.00_rb2" 1306.21 3840 3848 3880 3920 2160 2300 2308 2314 +hsync -vsync

but I'd not expect too much.

Because when i was using WIndows 10 before, it worked perfectly fine after installing amd drivers

w/ DP 1.4??
