[SOLVED] Failing to install NVIDIA drivers on laptop

Got a hybrid laptop (Dell Precision 5570) with both integrated graphics and an Nvidia gpu.
I've installed from scratch a couple of times now. Sometimes intel, sometime nvidia. Never managed to get the nvidia drivers working.

One thing I'm noticing is that for the life of me I can't modprobe the nvidia module. It used to crash, now it just hangs...

$ cat /proc/modules | grep -e nvidia
nvidia 46981120 1 - Loading 0x0000000000000000 (POE+)

$ lsmod  | grep nvidia
nvidia              45367296  1

$ sudo modprobe nvidia -vv
modprobe: INFO: custom logging function 0x5625b6a76af0 registered
insmod /lib/modules/5.18.12-arch1-1/extramodules/nvidia.ko.xz
<HANGS HERE>

Re: [SOLVED] Failing to install NVIDIA drivers on laptop

Read the blue note in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#Installation and add ibt=off to your kernel parameters.

While we are here, remove xf86-video-intel you really don't want that on an Alder Lake GPU

And if you "can't  find no way to use the nvidia GPU in general": https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … er_offload

Re: [SOLVED] Failing to install NVIDIA drivers on laptop

Setting ibt=off did the trick. Thank you!
