ASUS Laptop GL503VD - Audio Issues on Arch

Hello all,

I have an ASUS GL503VD laptop with a pretty fresh install of Arch. I tried to set up the audio server on the machine, and the speakers work great with just an installation of PulseAudio or PipeWire. However, plugging in wired headphones to the headphone jack results in no sound whatsoever through the headphones. I can hack at it using pavucontrol and hdajackretask and even make the speakers work while the heaphones are plugged in, but the headphones themselves won't play anything at all, neither with PipeWire, nor PulseAudio, nor directly controlled through ALSA (via alsamixer and amixer).

Here's some information that might be useful from other places I've seen similar problems:

Any help solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ASUS Laptop GL503VD - Audio Issues on Arch

Sometimes the wiring is weird so that the "Speaker" control shouldn't be muted even if you plug in headphones, if you manually unmute the speakers with the headphone plugged in with e.g.

amixer -c0 sset 'Speaker',0 on,on

does that help or do you just get speaker out from that?

Other than that it sounds like you tried most avenues I'd otherwise be suggesting already, other than maybe try dell-headset-multi or headset-mic on the models as well

Re: ASUS Laptop GL503VD - Audio Issues on Arch

Tried that, doesn't help. I even tried to separate the speaker and headset devices on the sound card using this reddit thread. (Oh hey, I see you, V1del tongue)

I'll try using the dell models in the alsa-base.conf to see if that does anything later. Other than that, I'm stumped.
