Hey! I don't really like long messages, so I'll keep it short. I'm a new user of Arch Linux (installed it today) and have never used a Linux distribution before. I've tried to install numerous apps in the "Discover" app but it keeps telling me that it cannot install anything, because none of the apps backends are available. Since I'm new to Arch (and Linux as a whole) I really don't understand what that means. Could anyone help me with this issue, and explain what "backends" actually are? Thanks!

No, sorry, I'll install it, and come back if it didn't work.

I'm back. I tried installing with these instructions: https://confluence.jaytaala.com/display … ed+distros but it still doesn't work, idk if it's because of the wrong instalation guide, or if I messed up something, but it still shows the same screen.

What the...
You ran some random long command instead of just installing what you wanted? What exactly did you install?

It was supposedly to install "all of the optional dependencies" which I think is what jasonwryan was talking about, so I think it was that.

How did you install Arch?
Offline
I used archinstall, since I REALLY didn't want to go through the manual process.

You think? You didn't even bother to read what it did?
If you don't read what pacman talls you, you're going to have a terrible time on Arch.

Oh, so should I install Arch again, and properly?

Arch is a text-oriented distro. If you don't like reading console output, man pages, and the wiki, you will struggle.

Ok I see, so I need to pay more attention than for example Ubuntu. I don't know if I should continue using Arch, since it's a bit more complicated than for example Ubuntu. Should I keep using Arch, or should I start with more easy distros and come back to Arch later?

Entirely up to you. Just know that starting with Arch will be amuch steeper learning curve, and you will be expected by the community to be a lot more self-sufficient. Questions are fine, but make sure they are informed: How To Ask Questions The Smart Way
